Mercy Regional Medical Center and Acadian Medical Center
Earn 5-Star CMS Rating for Overall Hospital Quality
December 2017 rating puts MRMC and AMC in the top 9% of all U.S. hospitals
Eunice, LA (December 20, 2017) – In the latest round of Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings released by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Mercy Regional Medical Center and it’s Eunice campus, Acadian Medical Center, have been awarded a top 5-star rating.
CMS unveiled its new, expanded Star Ratings program last year, as part of a national push to increase healthcare transparency and help patients and their family members make informed decisions about their healthcare. Rankings are determined by a host of data, including mortality, safety and readmission outcomes; patient experience; effectiveness and timeliness of care; and the efficient use of medical imaging.
Mercy and Acadian’s Overall Hospital Quality 5-star Rating is the highest possible performance rating and puts Mercy and Acadian in the top 9 percent of all hospitals in the U.S., with respect to patient safety and the overall patient experience.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement,” says Scott Smith, Louisiana Market CEO and chief executive officer (CEO) of Mercy Regional Medical Center and Acadian Medical Center. “We attribute our success in the program to our hospital-wide commitment to quality.”
Mercy and Acadian have launched a number of initiatives in recent years aimed at further enhancing the quality of care provided to patients, including external benchmarking on quality indicators, measuring patient satisfaction through HCAHPS, bedside shift reporting, and patient safety boards.
“At both Mercy and Acadian, we consider it a privilege to serve the healthcare needs of our communities,” says CEO, Scott Smith, “and we will continue to monitor our progress and explore opportunities to even further enhance patient care in an effort to provide the best possible experience for all who enter our facilities.”
The overall hospital quality star ratings are updated each July and December. For more information on the Star Ratings Program, visit the CMS website at Medicare.gov.
